Uncle Hendrick

Am I the only one who thinks that Kit's Uncle Hendrick isn't all that bad. I just read Kit's Surprise
and I know he's supposed to be a nasty, grouchy, old, stingy, man but I can't help but like him.
His lessons on whatever you earn you should be able to keep are priceless. My father was always teaching me the same thing. I think he's great. Plus he has a dog, He can't be all that bad if he loves his dog.

I think Uncle Hendrick is just a sad lonely man. His way of getting attention is to be grumpy. I bet you that he was not sick. He just wanted company. And remember in "Meet Kit" he does say that the Kittredges will move in with him. I think he would be happy, but he still does not give them any money. Maybe Uncle Hendrick does not have much money either, yet he is too proud to admit it! I always wonder who feeds him, and takes care of the house. Nowhere it is mentioned that Uncle Hendrick had a maid or worker.

You must read Changes for Kit, Uncle Henrick moves in with them for a few months! You got to read that next and what he does to Kit. He gives her a lesson, eventhough he does not know it.

I read the book and thought the same thing. He just seemed grumpy and lonely. Loved "Kit's Surprise" - he could have given more money because he doesn't seem stupid, he must have known about her keeping the money, but then again he's supposed to be a penny pincher.

I know it would be a spoiler... but I've been unable to read Kit books 5 and 6... can any of you tell me what happens in them?? I'm curious to know. does her dad ever get a job? does Uncle Hendrick ever become nice? does her brother ever get to go to college? I would just go into a bookstore and look through but I have to admit, I feel a bit self-conscious standing in the kid's section of a book store (not to mention I feel bad anyways reading a book in a book store).
